Cytotechnologist
(Cytology)

Duties and Responsibilities:
    Cytology is the study of human body cells. Cytotechnologists are specially trained clinical technologists who study human body cells. They examine cell to identify changes that may indicate diseases like cancer.

 Their duties include preparing microscope slides of cell samples, examining cell samples using microscope, identifying abnormalities in shape, size, or color, using other automated lab equipment to perform tests, and analyzing reports test results to physicians.
Cytotechnologists usually work in hospitals, clinics, or private laboratories. They also work in universities or for other researcher

Average Salary: $30,000-$50,000

Educational Requirements:
Students should take the most challenging high school courses in science, math, and English.
Almost all cytotechnologists earn bachelor’s degree in medical or clinical technology programs that include a year-long clinical internship in the field.

Rehabilitation or Mental

Health Counselor

Duties and Responsibilities:

Rehabilitation or mental health counselors work with the mentally, emotionally, and physically disabled. It is their jobs to help patients develop more faith in themselves. They work with patients to help them become self-sufficient and productive. Counselors often work closely with their patient’s doctors and family. Counselors may work in private practices, for school, industry, or in hospitals or residential health care setting.

Counselors often:

·         Work with patients who abuse alcohol or are addicted to drugs

·         Interview and observe patients to determine problems areas

·         Conduct personality, aptitude, achievements, and psychological        tests.

·         Helps patients find and keep jobs

Average Salary: $25,000-$45,000

Educational Requirements:

Students interested in becoming counselors should take a challenging high school curriculum.

A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or sociology is the minimum requirements for low level counseling jobs, but a master’s degree is required for most. To become licensed by a state counselor must pass written or oral examination and work for about two years in a supervised clinical settings.

Educational Requirements:

Students should take high school courses in business, information management, science, math, and English.

Coding specialists must have a high school diploma or GED certificate. Training is usually conducted on the job, but classes are offered at technical schools and community colleges. To become certified, specialists must pass an examination.

Accredited record technicians must earn an associate’s degree from an accredited college program or from the Americans Health Information Management Association Independent Study Program. Additionally, they must pass a credentialing examination.

Record administrators must complete a bachelor’s degree program in the field and pass a certification examination.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Health Information Specialists obtain, post, and analyze medical, workload, finance and insurance data. They ensure that this information is properly recorded into medical records so practitioners can plan and evaluate health care provided to patients.
     
    There are a variety of job specialties within this field including Registered Record Administrators, Accredited Record Technicians, and Certified Coding Specialists, Administrators coordinate the carious information management responsibilities and supervise record technicians and coding specialists. Record technicians ensure medical records are accurate, coordinate reimbursement, and maintain disease registries for search. Coding specialists assign and post correct diagnosis and procedure codes to records and reports codes to insurance companies.
        
       Health information specialists work in hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, physician offices and many other medical settings,

Nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialist are advanced practice registered nurses who have received special courses and training. They usually work closely with doctors and can perform many high-level primary care tasks. They often specialize in specific types of practice such as pediatrics, psychiatry, or obstetrics.  Some establish private practices; however, most work in doctors’ offices, hospitals, or neighborhood health centers. Duties often include:

·       Taking detailed medical histories and perform complete physical exams.
·       Provide diagnosed and recommending treatment plans.
·       Treating common medical condition, illness, and injuries.
·       Prescribing limited medications.
·       Counseling patients and families.

Average Salary: $39,000-$70,000

Educational Requirements:

Students should take challenging high school courses in science, math, and English. Students must complete all of the education requirements to become a baccalaureate prepare registered nurse. They must then complete additional masters’ levels training and pass a certification examination.
